Anatomy Scan And 18 Weeks + 5 Days

So far this past week has been pretty darn good.

First off is that I am finally for sure that I can feel my little babe kicking versus it being gas or all in my head. So wonderful to be feeling that again!

Second being that Liam has a baby sister! Yup, that's right, we are having a girl! We have a couple girl names that we like but nothing has been decided yet.

Third and most importantly being that everything is measuring spot on. No signs of any hydrocephalus, spina bifida, or other abnormality.  Woo hoo! Happy Dance!

So here she is at 18 weeks + 5 days and a whopping 9 oz.

After the u/s was over we talked with the Dr. about when she would suggest doing a c-section. She preferred not going past 37 weeks and if anything she said we could do an amnio at 36 weeks just to ensure baby is doing good for an early delivery. Really hope my Ob will agree with her on that plan.

We will be going back and seeing the Perinatologist again in 6 weeks. At this appt she will do another u/s to look at my uterus closer and make sure that my incision still looks good.

  1. Ya! Such wonderful news all around!!! :)

Can I ask why you're looking at a 37 week section? I'm not judging, it's just that mine said 38, and I'm curious if there's a specific reason to do it earlier (like if it's a time since prior c-section thing).

    Congrats again- so amazing! :)

  2. Laura- The fetal surgery dr.s told me to never go past 38 weeks or ever go into labor for fear of a uterine rupture. They also want all future pregnancies to be treated like an emergency/classical c-section. I actually have a transverse incision but for the fetal surgery it is not in the standard location a c-section gets done. Plus, getting told I can never go into labor for fear of a rupture scares the crap out of me and if this baby is healthy I'd rather not risk it. I'm nervous enough as is, but really its my ob dr.'s decision not the Perinatologist I saw todays who said she'd prefer 37. And my Ob said last week she won't do it early if she doesn't feel its necessary. She wants to try for 39, yikes!

  5. Ah! That makes sense! I have the same thing as far as avoiding labour, but I have the classic c-section, so I suspect that's the difference? It's funny how OBs vary on this, huh? kinda like when you can start ttc again after pregnancy/loss/etc.

Congrats again on the girl! :)

  6. Aw, congrats on the girl! I'm so excited for you. I'm glad the doctor is looking at 37 weeks instead of 39 weeks for csection.

Oh, and I love the ultrasound pics. She's so cute! :)

After having my Nate (fetal surgery), my next baby was delivered by c-section (bikini incision) at exactly 37 weeks and did perfectly.
