It's a Boy!

Liz gave me a fuzzy tiera that I am wearing that says MOM and I am also holding my friends little boy. I had been so excited that our babies would have only been about 10 months a part and hoped they would've been great friends. I was 5 months a long in this picture.
My good friends Liz and Kevin had a "It's a Boy" party for Dereck and I the evening after we found out our babies sex. The night turned out to be a lot fun considering that it was the same appointment that we found out Liam had Spina Bifida and hydrocephalus and that we needed to see a Perinatologist.
Dereck and I decided to play a trick on Liz and kevin and had told them that we were having a girl but told everyone else we were expecting a boy. Liz had also asked if we wanted to have dinner to celebrate the news. At first we had said no because of the horrific news we had heard at the appointment but later found out that she had actually invited a bunch of our friends and made it a little party, so we figured we kind of had to go then.
When we got there we were hoping that they would still be thinking that we were having a girl, but after they made an event of it on facebook that stated "It's a Girl" and everyone else was responding with "Isn't it going to be a boy" they figured it out.

I am just going to add here that I had really wanted a girl and was actually sad when I found out I was going to be having a boy. Right after that is when we found out about the Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus-now there is something to be sad about, not the sex of our baby.

  1. I'm glad that you have a fun memory to look back on and you must be a really strong woman to go to a party after hearing such hard news...

We were told Lily was a boy at 16 weeks but found out they were wrong and that she was a girl at 19 weeks...I was so happy! I really, really wanted a girl and smiled from ear to ear for the 4 weeks that we knew she was a girl. I always get mad at myself for being so silly at such a thing as the gender but at that time, I had no idea what was really more important.

  2. I didn't want to find out the sex on Kristen.. we had waited with Jenna, and I loved the surprise, but, I had promised Ken that if we got pregnant again we'd find out. Every ultrasound she hid, so we still didn't know. My reasoning for wanting to wait was that, if it was a girl... I'd be disappointed until she was born (I knew that once I met the baby, I would love it no matter what the sex was) But I didn't want to feel guilty for wishing for a boy, if she was a girl.... Now I feel foolish, and just wish I had my baby!
It is a really nice picture by the way!

  3. Gorgeous photo of you... must have been a party full of mixed emotion. The day of our 20 week scan for Gabrielle, I was so excited to find out whether she was a girl or a boy... but then when they told us there was no heartbeat, that excited disappeared forever. Know how you feel and love to you always xoxo
